I was very excited to get a Bogen Super clamp and Tilt-Top Head with Platform and do some bike-mounted shots. Unfortunately, my results aren't as stunning as those from Mark Rebilas or Chase Jarvis; my lenses aren't wide enough to get a good view with such a short arm.
The assembly was rock-solid, though, and it was fun to play with different setups. I used a remote wired trigger (you can see the wire wrapped around the bike) and preset the camera focus when I could. When the camera was facing down, the vibration quickly worked the zoom adjustment loose, which was easily fixed with a bit of gaffer tape. The camera itself was redundantly attached using its own strap and a small carabiner.
For the self-portraits, I bolted a flash onto a normal spring clamp, which didn't hold nearly as well as the super clamp. Of course, after a few passes, I realized you couldn't even tell I was on the bike, and I could just do them standing still :)
Though the photos were a little disappointing as stills, I did seize another bit of inspiration and throw all 128 frames into a video, which I found a bit more appealing.
