The night before I left for Telluride, I came home to find my neighbor's washer hose had burst and flooded the basement with several inches of water. After hauling my half-packed snowboard gear out to dry, I made a quick trip out for rubber boots and started wringing things out.
After a week, everything had dried out but the rugs, which were making quite a stench. Disposing of them was made a little more challenging by the fact that they were still sopping wet, but it solved the smell problem. The growing on the more soaked portions of the drywall was easily killed off by some bleach spray.
A month later I finally installed some interlocking gym flooring to replace the carpets. Cleaning up after the next leak should be a bit easier!
