New Front Page: WordPress Without Themes

If you read this via feed or email, don’t miss out on the new front page. Since this site is now as much about photography as blogging, I wanted the front page to reflect both. It also has a few other cool features: hover over the slideshow to pause it, click an image to see its details or buy a print, and hover over any blog title to see a one-paragraph preview. The blog and gallery themes also received fresh headers.

I plan to update the slideshow occasionally, so please nominate your favorite photos in the comments.

Technically, this new front page uses WordPress, but without the themes. (There is an option to replace the default post listing with a custom page, but it effectively scuttles other access to the first page of recent posts.) It opens with the same code found in wp-blog-header.php, omitting the last line that invokes template-loader.php. After that, you can make whatever WordPress calls you want.

This also means that the blog now appears in the blog subdirectory. I’ve added some redirects for old links, but please let me know if anything is still broken.
