Recruiters

One of the things that deterred me from job hunting in the past was that most postings seem to be from recruiting agencies, who have a negative stereotype of being sharks just looking to get their commission. The jobs, too, seemed subpar and single-minded: looking for a candidate with 10 years of technology X who wants to do the exact same thing for a another 10 years.

So I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the recruiters who have contacted me; they both seem to have a genuine interest in finding the right job for me and have brought some really exciting opportunities from top notch firms. These are the kind of innovative places that value smart people, and I had thought you would only find through networking.

In short, job searches are one of those areas in which I would’ve expected technology to eliminate people as brokers of information, but I’m finding having the right people in the loop is hugely valuable.
